Description
Maschine is a beat-making workstation with a built-in drum sequencer, sampling and looping functions, and is the latest result of Native Instruments’ initiative to create hybrid hardware-software instruments.
The software component starts as a standalone application or as an AU/VST/RTAS plugin, while the hardware is a Maschine software controller that can also be used as a regular midi controller.
With Maschine, NATIVE INSTRUMENTS wanted to take the tactile and direct production style of hardware instruments like the Akai MPC and add the benefits of a computer-based music station, and in that they succeeded. Although the hardware itself does not have sound generation capabilities, the tight integration with the plugin creates a feeling similar to that of a standalone hardware instrument.
